Good evening, all! Hopping on the blog tonight to share a super easy at-home beauty treatment just in time for your summer bod: Grapefruit Coffee Body Scrub. Now, I was never one to like scour the kitchen pantry and mash up bananas and shit for a DIY face mask. But nowadays, I do think that these easy at home hacks (using the proper dose of potent essential oils) can do wonders for a girl, rather than getting some lame-ass-watered-down version that’s overpriced and sitting on a retail shelf.
I’ve been keeping this Grapefruit Coffee Scrub (that took me literally 30 seconds to make) in a mason jar in my shower the past month. The recipe is adapted from Hello Glow blog and it’s only a handful of ingredients that have been awesome for sloughing off dead skin and improving cellulite. I used it religiously just last weekend in preparation for our trip to Palm Springs (travel guide here) before dousing myself in Chocolate Sun Organic self tanner (peep it in my Amazon store) and throwing on a black one-piece with major side boob action.
4 Ingredient Grapefruit Coffee Body Scrub
But before we get to the recipe, let’s chat ingredient magic.
First up, coffee grounds, which act as a temporary diuretic removing excess water from the skin- aka what cellulite is. Trapped water retention. Similarly how drinking coffee helps if you have puffy eyes, sucking up that excess liquid. Often too why you’ll find under eye beauty products with coffee beans as a main ingredient, like my favorite from 100% Pure. The coffee grounds are also a bomb exfoliator!
Next, pure and cold-pressed grapefruit essential oil. I get mine from Doterra. Grapefruit oil has a natural ability to breakdown fat. As Doterra notes, “Grapefruit is renowned for its cleansing and purifying properties and is frequently used in skin care for its ability to promote the appearance of clear, healthy-looking skin.” Tip: You can also add a few drops to your water to aid with metabolism and help with weight loss for keeping hunger cravings at bay.
Alright, find the recipe below for your mixing pleasure.
Ingredients:
- Roughly a tablespoon of coconut sugar
- ¼ cup organic ground coffee
- ¼ cup coconut oil (I used Doterra’s fractionated coconut oil but you can totes use regular coconut oil too.)
- 10 drops of grapefruit essential oil
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients in a mason jar or any container. You may have to add more oil or sugar to get the texture you want. Feel free to play around and make it your own. It will stay good in the fridge for up to a few months.
How To Use:
Scrub in a circular motion anywhere on body in the shower and let sit while for a few minutes while you condition your hair or something. Then rinse! If you want a little more, you can also put on a few additional drops of grapefruit essential oil paired with coconut oil after you get out of the shower.
If you want to order any of the above ingredients from Doterra, please let me know in the comments and I can quickly help you out there.
