Hi! I wanted to share my latest obsession with you guys- icing my face. Correction, icing {the shit} out of my face. Yes, you heard that right. I can’t even begin to tell you what a game changer this daily skincare hack has been for lymphatic drainage, puffiness, sinus headaches or migraines, and especially ACNE. Plus, this is so easy, totally nontoxic, and cheap.
Icing My Face To Help With Acne
I was introduced to this skincare tip by Corrective Skincare here in LA. The team there has been a huge help in keeping my stubborn breakout prone skin under control since moving out to the West Coast. I absolutely love this place because their methods are super effective to get a case of acne control without having to take a bunch of drugs and other toxic crap traditional dermatologists prescribe. And trust me, I’ve tried it ALL, even Accutane. Anyone else?
I’ve talked a bit about my skin struggles on the blog and I want to start sharing a little more for anyone else who may be in the same boat. I’ve had persistent skin issues since I was 13. I feel like I have been waiting forever for this stage in my life to be over, thinking I’ll always outgrow it, but as I near my 28th birthday later this summer, I know in my gut it’s something going on inside that is to blame (did you catch my pun there? Gut ;)). So, I continue my mission to figure out the root cause of chronic issues like this that I’ve been experiencing.
Luckily, I’ve never experienced any cystic acne, which I feel very fortunate to say I have somehow avoided.
I have, however, experienced constant, daily, and inflammatory flare-ups on as a result of what I assume at the time is based on stress, diet, and other internal issues. This is another reason why I’m passionate about a plant-based diet. I swear it has improved my skin immensely over the years. (More on a plant based diet here!)
Ugh. It’s totes not fun to admit, but sometimes I feel like I’ve been cursed with this issue. I know deep down though there is some reason we are sometimes dealt these cards. And trust me, I know, life could be so much worse. I have nothing too cray to complain about. But nothing sucks more than not liking what you see in the mirror. ya know? It totally affects your confidence and I feel like while riding the breakout train has made me very empathetic to others, it also has definitely made me feel super depressed at times. #realtalk
Sorry to sound like I’m complaining but sometimes you just have to vent to get yourself out of that funk, ya know? So thank you guys for being my sounding board. Moving on though, the good news is that there are amazing people in this world that the universe connects you with, like those at Corrective Skincare.
The founder, Jen (hi Jen, shoutout!), introduced me to this magical ice cup for adding ice to my skincare routine.
I massage this basically mega-sized ice cube onto my face once in the morning and then once again at night after cleansing. I swear it makes any blemishes instantly decrease in size and takes 10 pounds out of my face. And I have some chubby cheeks.
I used to use an ice roller and a jelly face mask you can keep in the freezer, but I have found that this magical ice cup is 1000x BETTER because the ice can go directly onto your skin. It feels so good too. Like, therapeutic for sure and it’s quickly become a daily ritual for me.
Benefits of Icing Your Skin
- Ice preserves your skin. Just like you’d put meat in a freezer to preserve it! (Stay away wrinkles, keep me in my twenties forever plz).
- Ice helps take down inflammation (red, inflamed, cystic acne) which will help heal the acne faster and make it less painful. Think of how icing helps a sports injury, its does the same thing for your skin.
- Icing is a homeopathic way of exfoliating your skin because it is freezing the top layer of your skin.
- Ice helps with skincare product penetration. The best way to explain how this works is to think of your skin as a sponge. Put soap on a dry sponge- it doesn’t do anything but sit on the surface. Now think of the sponge after you’ve wet the sponge, it becomes easier for the soap to do its job and seep into the sponge. It’s the same concept with your skin and any products you apply to your skin after icing!
So, with that, I’ll leave you to check out the ice cup I use in my Amazon store- click HERE! And if you’re in the LA area, definitely check out my girls at Corrective Skincare HERE.
So, do you ice your face? Struggle with finding ways to treat certain skin issues in a less invasive way? I want to know it all!
Until next time,
XOXO
Dani
