Infrared Saunas for Inflammation, Sinuses, Skin Issues, & Hangovers

October 23, 2018

infrared saunas detoxification

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a kick a$$ day planning out their weekly to do list and getting organized for the hustle ahead. This week I’m sharing one of my all time favorite ways to detox the bod of toxins- INFRARED SAUNAS and all their detoxification glory. Yazzzz. It’s gettin’ hot in hur, so take off all yo clothez… (Nelly memz). But I digress. Let’s get to it so you can add this to your detox to retox toolkit.

I’ve been obsessed with infrared saunas ever since I discovered them when my Mom purchased one for our family home a few years back as part of her holistic routine for treating cancer. (A tad more info about their link to cancer treatment in this Goop article!)

Essentially, my very easy way of explaining how they work is the light waves seep into your body to raise your temperature and help you sweat out toxins deep inside the body.

But, let’s get back to the basics to begin.

Infrared Saunas for Inflammation, Sinuses, Skin Issues, & Hangovers

What is an infrared sauna and what makes it different from a regular ol’ average Joe sauna?

Infrared saunas give off infrared thermal light waves that penetrate (sorry couldn’t find a better word lolz) their way into the skin to create heat in the body, causing you to sweat and release stored toxins. The normal sauna you’re probably more familiar with has to heat the air inside it in order to then heat you, like a dry sauna at a spa or gym steam room.

What can a infrared sauna help me with?

This lil hottie (get it?) has received praise for assisting with anti-aging, pain reduction, join/muscle support, stress management, fighting inflammation, boosting metabolism, and much more! Check out this awesome article by one of my favorite young, hip, and all around fantastic functional medicine doctors, Dr. Will Cole, to see more specifically how this treatment can help you!

Personally, I love going and laying in the infrared sauna when I’m hungover, feel foggy/sluggish, want to clear my skin up, and ESPECIALLY when suffering from any colds, sinus infections, and allergies.

I swear anytime I feel my sinuses start to act up with the change of weather or seasons, I immediately feel better after a sauna sesh. No joke I was sneezing all day this past Saturday and running through tissues like it was my job. The next day I went to my new found location here in Santa Monica for renting an infrared sauna sesh, the amaze Alchemie Organic Spa, and I swear to you all I was fine within 15 minutes of finishing my 45 minute session. Ahhh the wonders of holistic wellness am I right?!

Furthermore, these saunas help fight infection and boost immunity, and raising my body temperature helps kill off any bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. I also was way over medicated with antibiotics to treat sinus infections throughout the majority of my life so I like the feeling of being able to detox some of this overexposure out of my system.

Lastly, I love using infrared saunas for improving my skin as well as managing stress, anxiety, and adrenal fatigue (which I’ve chatted about before in this post here!)

Ok, I wanna try! How do I find an infrared sauna to go to?

Honestly, I’d recommend just googling “infrared sauna sessions” or “rent infrared sauna” in your area. You can also purchase one, but forewarning, they are pricey and require a lot of space. I used to rent a session when I lived in NY at a colonic center for $25, and now I do so out here in Cali for about $35 for 45 minute sessions.

So, swap out that manicure and treat yourself to a detox instead this week!

Have you ever tried infrared saunas? Lemme know below.

Until next time.

XOXO- Dani

@dearmediastudio 2nd annual IRL event in Austin th @dearmediastudio 2nd annual IRL event in Austin this past weekend- I remember @michaelbosstick describing the company vision to me about community events 5 years ago (before I had the amazing team we do now & when the brand partnerships department was literally just me, myself, & i lolz!) Fast forward here we are again with over 500 people coming to see some of their fave creators in person, experience brand activations, & spend the day with us! Super rewarding to see all this come to life after the behind the scenes planning since last year. Lucky to work with such incredible people & brands.

Next IRL coming SOON to a NEW city in the fall 🎤🎙️📰🎧🏙️🤠
We had to say goodbye to my best pal Caesar aka pu We had to say goodbye to my best pal Caesar aka pup on the Loose this past weekend. I feel like no one prepares you for this kind of grief you experience losing the pet that was ride or die with you through your 20s and all the life changes and growth that decade brings. He was by my side through it all. I got Caesar almost 12 years ago when I was a senior in college, preparing to graduate and then move to NYC. We adopted him from Fuzzy Friends in my hometown Waco, Tx where he was rescued from a puppy mill in Austin. He lived on both coasts during his life (NYC and LA!) and he truly went everywhere with us like Vegas, New Orleans, Palm Springs, Big Sur, and so much more. I can’t thank him enough for the unconditional love and comfort he gave me from 20 to now almost 33. Rest in peace my little angel. Love ya Always and forever🤍🦴🐾🐶
