6.3.17. The date we said I do and Garrett, “the hubs,” got suckered in to this vegan-blogger-wannabe-girl fo’ life. A whole year with the ol’ ball and chain. JK. Damn, TIME. HAS. FLOWN. We celebrated at my favorite Dallas organic spa. I’ll share more about that but first, my reflections on this past year.
I can honestly tell you guys this first year of marriage has been one of the best years of my life. I know, I know- sappy AF. But hear me out. Your parents, grandparents, and randoms walkin’ down the street always throw out the annoyingly overstated “first year is the hardest!” crap and I can see what people mean. You are literally joining two different lives down to the deepest details of everyday routine.
Dating someone for 6 (err, 7??) years, you’d think you know every little thing about them. But marriage has really allowed us to understand what it’s like to design a life TOGETHER, not separately and then coming to the other one with new agendas or ideas and hoping they are aligned and onboard.
I’ve truly felt more connected than ever and it’s not something I understood prior to this first year. It’s not the ceremony, or the reception, or getting that piece of paper that made me feel or recognize this. It just happened over time, as we figured out how to work as teammates toward that overarching goal or picture of what the rest of this life on earth looks like (gimme those vision boards)! Aka soccer Mom, white Range Rover driving status where I can sip martinis at the country club pool…. Juuuuust kidding 😉
Obviously it’s not all rainbows and butterflies- relationships are HARD. WORK. But life is all about relationships and this one has by far been the most rewarding! Ok, sappiness done. I can only handle mushy gushy Dani for a couple paragraphs.
To celebrate one year of wedded bliss, we went to my favorite Dallas organic spa. We were so fortunate to be treated to an amazing Spa Day at SPA HABITAT! I absolutely cannot get enough of this place and the values that drive their business.
The founder, Amy Bohn, saw a white space in the spa industry for providing HOLISTIC health and wellness treatments. The idea for massages, facials, body scrubs, and more using only the most organic and natural ingredients was inspired by a cancer-fighting client. She wanted clients fighting diseases such as this, or just living a conscious lifestyle overall, to enjoy a spa experience but trust that the ingredients being used were absolutely safe. This obviously hits so close to home for me! {You can check out THIS POST to dig into why treating disease, especially cancer, holistically is so important to me.}
From there, Spa Habitat was formed along with a full apothecary line, called Clovertree. You can learn more about them HERE. I cannot say enough amazing things about this company. It truly is the only place I trust for spa services in Dallas, especially facials. The top notch staff along with their eco-friendly practices are also major bonuses! So, a huge thank you to Spa Habitat for helping us feel relaxed, refreshed, and renewed as we enter our second year of marriage. Only a lifetime left to go- we got this.
I thought I’d wrap up with some wedding pics and our video from the big day (forewarning, lots of me ugly crying & enjoying alcoholic beverages). And because, let’s be honest, I just want an excuse to post these. Thanks for reading!
Should I do more posts about combining wellness with weddings? Think nontoxic spray tans, organic mimosa recipes, bachelorette party hangover cures, etc. I got a lot of tips. Let me know what you want to see in the comments below. Cheers!
XOXO- Dani
