Hey hey hey! Let’s chat real quick about healthy vegan travel snacks. I have traveled a lot for various jobs over the years and now my husband and I travel a good bit flying back and forth from Texas to LA. I wanted to share with you guys what snacks work well for me to bring on the plane in my carry on. Traveling when you’re someone who follows a 100% organic and plant-based diet can be tough if you don’t plan ahead. Airport food courts around the US typically do not offer anything that’s up to my standards. I know that makes me sound like a food snob but it’s the truth HA.
Now there are definitely exceptions- LAX for example is amazing. With local staples like Beaming, Real Food Daily, and Urth Cafe, I could handle a layover or delayed flight like a champ here. Of course, I know this is a unicorn in the airport land. So, this list of snacks are my usual go-to’s for travel. No refrigeration needed, not messy to eat, and can totally curb hunger through long flights. Get ready for takeoff… (plane joke for ya there) 😉
Healthy Vegan Travel Snacks
Avocado
Yes, you can bring these little nuggets through security just fine. People are always shocked to hear that. They are such a life saver and great to top with crackers or add to dishes if you find yourself desperately grabbing a salad pre or post flight.
Apples
I cut them up and baggie them so they are ready to munch on.
Artisana Organics To Go Packets
I bring the coconut oil, coconut butter, and nut butter packets. This brand is one of my favorites because they use the best organic, high quality ingredients and do not add any filler stuff like palm oil or sugar to the nut butters like a lot of other companies do. They also are super unique and the only brand on the market I’ve seen with flavors like walnut and pecan in addition to your standard almond or cashew butter.
Go Macro Bars
These are some of the best vegan bars EVER and only made with a few simple, whole food ingredients.
Papa Steve’s No Junk Raw Protein Bars
You can never have enough snack bars in your bag to keep your husband’s hanger at bay, ya know? 😉 These are an awesome local California brand I recently discovered. Make sure to grab the flavors marked Vegan though. My all time fave is the dark chocolate cherry cashew. Effing divine.
Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee Packets
Their mushroom superfood instant coffee powders are amazing. I always keep in my bag if I’m in need of a pick me up to avoid the airport Starbucks. Just add to hot water and viola!
Saffron Road Sea Salt Chickpeas
These are the bomb for a quick protein snack.
Flackers Crackers
Cleanest crackers made primarily with flaxseed and by a doctor! Doesn’t get any better. Perfect to pair with the avocado too for a total in-flight meal. Sorry, I can’t stop with the cheesy airplane lingo.
KK that’s what’s in my travel bag (lately my Dagne Dover backpack paired with my pink Away carry-on). I hope this was helpful so you can prep some healthy sustenance before your next airport adventure.
Until next time,
XOXO – Dani
