How To Drink Wine Without A Hangover: Dry Farm Wines

November 12, 2018

dry farm wines bottles on a tray

Hello, folks and happy Sunday! This post has been a long time coming and I’m so excited to finally share my love for Dry Farm Wines with you. This a company that truly values health and celebration. My fave things! Yes, I’m spillin’ my secrets for how to drink wine without a hangover supes early on in this post. So,get ready to be SCHOOLED on vino because this is is going to be a real treat. Let’s get to it!

How To Drink Wine Without A Hangover: Dry Farm Wines

I first discovered Dry Farm Wines after listening to a podcast by Natural Health 365 (shoutout) featuring the founder and CEO Todd White as the guest. The topic of discussion? Natural wines versus traditional, or, commercially produced wines. So, I knew drinking organic wine was just as important as eating organic foods, but I was shocked at the knowledge about the wine industry dropped during this p-cast.

Additionally, Dry Farm Wines has a whole list of factettes they shared with me. Also, here’s what I think you’ll find most interesting about the wine industry, and I’ll share a few tips about how & why life should continue to be celebrated with my fave grape juice bevvy, in a healthy and natural way. (I’m literally drinking as I type away….)

  1. OK- so, did you know wine bottles DON’T require nutrition or ingredient labels because wine labeling is done by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) rather than the FDA? Yup. Not sketch at all right?
  2. In vineyard farming practices, the amount of pesticides sprayed on vines is 26x more than what it was 50 years ago. In other words, grapes now have the highest doses of synthetic pesticides of ANY crop. Ew.
  3. Irrigating grapes with a shit ton of water is how the US pumps out bottle after bottle, aka easy profit- it’s always about that mula $$$. Nonetheless, this method of production results in higher sugar levels at the time of harvest, therefore, leading to higher alcohol levels in wine and other unhealthy high-sugar byproducts in fermentation. Therefore, what’s better way? Dry farming, which relies only on natural rainfall for growing grapes. In most regions in Europe, irrigation is actually illegal! Sounds like I need to get me a ticket for a Euro vaca stat.
  4. This is the real kicker. The FDA approves 76 different additives for use in winemaking. This includes substances such as ammonium phosphate, fish bladder (what the actual F?), casein (milk protein), and polyvinyl-polpyr-rolidone (PVPP). Like WTF even is that last one? So, would you ever blindly put that chemical shiz in your bod if you knew? Not I said the fly. Also, the fish bladder and casein are examples of how wine is not vegan as well. PLUS, 38 of these approved additives are only considered “Generally Regarded As Safe” by the FDA. Wow, thanks, I feel so much better…NOT.

  5. Top selling U.S. approved additives used by the wine industry include “Mega Purple”, a coloring agent. On average, 10,000 gallons of this syrupy goop crap is added to about 25 million bottles of wine per year – even expensive wines. As such, his is actually what causes the “purple teeth effect,” not the grapes themselves.
  6. Sulfites & sugars- you betcha those are a hot mess in this industry too. Moreover, “PPM, parts per million” is what we use to measure the amount of sulfites in wine. In the US, conventional wines can contain up to 350ppm. However, natural winemakers use little or no sulfur (sulfites), resulting in less than 40ppm. Also, fructose and glucose are present in commercial wines to appeal to the typical US consumer with a sweet tooth (because sugar is in like, EVERYTHING in our country). Sugar in wine can be as high as 300g/L. Cool cool.
  7. Enter the solution- NATURAL. DELICIOUS. EARTHLY. WINES! To farm natural wine, we need to use organic and/or biodynamical methods. Nothing is added to natural wines during production. This includes no chemical additives for aroma, color, flavor, or texture enhancement. And, there is minimal to no use of filtering, fining, or addition of sulfites.

So, after researching all of this one Saturday afternoon cracked out on cold brew coffee, I decided it was time to have a lil’ experient. I ordered a box from Dry Farm Wines to arrive stat. Needless to say, I’ve been putting my drinking skillz to the test. I’m happy to report I am utterly OBSESSED WITH EVERY BOTTLE I taste test from Dry Farm Wines. You knew this post would end with that right? I mean, sorry you had it coming from the get go.

Dry Farm Wines have STRICT AF health standards. WHICH I LOVE, OBVI. This is THE solution for HANGOVER FREE WINE DRINKING because…

… all their wines are from Europe and are lab-tested to be sugar-free, mold-free (ew, toxins), have lower alcohol content, & contain low amounts of naturally occurring sulfites!

Needless to say, I’m pretty sure I’ll be a fan of their natural wine club fo’ life

@dearmediastudio 2nd annual IRL event in Austin th @dearmediastudio 2nd annual IRL event in Austin this past weekend- I remember @michaelbosstick describing the company vision to me about community events 5 years ago (before I had the amazing team we do now & when the brand partnerships department was literally just me, myself, & i lolz!) Fast forward here we are again with over 500 people coming to see some of their fave creators in person, experience brand activations, & spend the day with us! Super rewarding to see all this come to life after the behind the scenes planning since last year. Lucky to work with such incredible people & brands.

Next IRL coming SOON to a NEW city in the fall 🎤🎙️📰🎧🏙️🤠
We had to say goodbye to my best pal Caesar aka pu We had to say goodbye to my best pal Caesar aka pup on the Loose this past weekend. I feel like no one prepares you for this kind of grief you experience losing the pet that was ride or die with you through your 20s and all the life changes and growth that decade brings. He was by my side through it all. I got Caesar almost 12 years ago when I was a senior in college, preparing to graduate and then move to NYC. We adopted him from Fuzzy Friends in my hometown Waco, Tx where he was rescued from a puppy mill in Austin. He lived on both coasts during his life (NYC and LA!) and he truly went everywhere with us like Vegas, New Orleans, Palm Springs, Big Sur, and so much more. I can’t thank him enough for the unconditional love and comfort he gave me from 20 to now almost 33. Rest in peace my little angel. Love ya Always and forever🤍🦴🐾🐶
