Alrighty, alright, alright. Here we go. Back in action after my moving-cross-country hiatus. New job, new city, new me ya know? First post as a Southern California resident. And we’re chatting margaritas folks.
You may have noticed on social media that riiiight before we headed out of Dallas to make the 22 hour drive to LA, we stopped in my hometown of Waco, TX {shoutout Fixer Upper fans} to celebrate my little sister and soon to be bro-in law’s engagement! And what better way to celebrate than a nice, crisp, CLEAN summer cocktail?! My mom made a delish, healthy-er version of the classic marg for the party that was quite a hit. I figured it was the perfect seasonal post as we all head into summertime rooftop happy hours, pool parties, and vacations.
As many of you know, my mom’s transition to non toxic, cleaner living to combat disease is the inspiration behind my own wellness journey. So, naturally, I’m a huge copycat of any recipes or health wisdom she bestows upon the world. Here is Mama Mary’s Organic Mason Jar Margarita Recipe (woah that’s a mouthful… of tequila ;)) Cheers!
Recipe…
Ingredients:
- Organic Limes (3 limes per 8 oz. drink/per person)
- Organic Tequila (yes, you want an organic tequila so those agave plants it’s made from weren’t chemically messed with and sprayed with icky pesticides. Plus, it’s closer to the raw form of agave (no thank you artificial sh*t), making it stronger, taste more pure, and generally healthier for your bod). We used a brand called Hacidena de Chihuahua silver from a local liquor store.
- Grand Marnier
- Sparkling Water
- Ice
- Organic Liquid Stevia Drops
- Glass Mason Jars (no plastic- I don’t want that chemical BPA seeping in & contaminating this deliciousness. Ya feel me? Plus, you can pick these up from just about anywhere this day- Target, Amazon, Whole Foods, Walmart, etc. and they give off that “crunchy-chic” vibe. YAZZZ.)
Instructions:
Add all the below to a high speed blender + blend until smooth!
- Fresh pressed lime juice (with handheld lemon/lime squeezer or juicer)
- An ounce or two of organic tequila
- Just a splash of Grand Marnier
- Handful ice
- Sparkling water to taste
*Tip– If it tastes too tart, add a couple drops of Stevia (0 glycemic index!) or other healthy liquid sweetener of choice like monk fruit. Try to avoid Agave syrup. While it tastes good, it packs on the glycemic load, especially since ya know, tequila already = agave. Just stating the obvious here.
Pour into mason jar(s) and freeze, or, enjoy right away. The alcohol in the tequila will keep it from freezing too hard. Enjoy!
XOXO, Dani
